Conscious hip hop inspired me and many my friends all throughout high school during the early and late 90's. I always appreciated the beats and lyricism of groups that used the art form to not only have fun but to reflect the state of world and deliver an impactful message. One quality of meaningful art is that is touches upon a deep truth. A lot of my identity was shaped by the rock and hip hop music of my youth so I understand the potential of a well crafted track. These days I've been leaning more towards instrumental tracks but this mixtape is a collection of all the more hip hop inspired and lyrical tracks I've come up with over the past five years. It's a part of my roots and I'll always be grateful to the artists that paved the way for me. I was fortunate enough to get to collaborate with some of my hip hop heroes on this one as well. One love everybody.
